Find cheaper flights from Bangkok by comparing BKK and DMK departures.
Suvarnabhumi (BKK) processes full-service international traffic - Thai Airways, Emirates, SIA, BA, and their alliance partners all operate here. The Airport Rail Link reaches Phaya Thai BTS station in 26 minutes for THB 45. Don Mueang (DMK), the older airport 24km north, is budget carrier territory: AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and Scoot run dozens of daily flights to Southeast Asian destinations at bare-bones prices.
Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, and Phnom Penh are among the cheapest international flights in the world - sub-THB 1,000 (USD 28) one-way fares appear regularly on AirAsia and Nok Air. These ultra-short hops (1-2 hours) run high frequency and rarely sell out, making them ideal for spontaneous weekend trips. For longer routes like Bangkok to Tokyo or London, Thai Airways and Gulf carriers compete on price with wide seasonal swings.
Rainy season (May through October) is when Bangkok outbound fares drop furthest. Airlines cut prices to keep seats filled as tourist inflows slow. May and June are the deepest dip - fares to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo drop 20-35% versus December levels. The rain itself falls in sharp afternoon bursts (rarely all day), so the trade-off for cheaper flights is minimal disruption to actual travel.
Check your airline. Thai Airways, Emirates, SIA, and legacy carriers use Suvarnabhumi (BKK). AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and Scoot operate from Don Mueang (DMK). A free shuttle bus connects the two airports in about 50 minutes, but plan carefully if you have a self-connection — they are 30km apart.
Extremely cheap. AirAsia and Nok Air sell Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, and Vientiane fares from THB 800-1,500 (USD 23-43) one-way. Even Singapore (2.5 hours) regularly appears below THB 2,000. These are among the cheapest international flights anywhere in the world.
May and June offer the lowest fares for outbound travel. AirAsia and Nok Air run periodic flash sales (usually announced on social media) with fares dropping 30-50% below normal. For long-haul departures, booking 6-8 weeks ahead during rainy season maximises your savings.
