Night markets, hot springs, and two rival airlines make Taipei Asia's rising fare deal.
EVA Air and China Airlines both treat Taoyuan (TPE) as their home base, generating fierce competition on routes to Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe. Starlux Airlines—a newer premium Taiwanese carrier—has been expanding rapidly with service to Los Angeles, Tokyo, and regional Asian cities. Budget options from Tigerair Taiwan and Peach Aviation serve Japan and short-haul regional markets at aggressive fares.
The Taoyuan Airport MRT links TPE to Taipei Main Station in 35 minutes for about TWD 160, with luggage check-in available at Taipei Main Station for select airlines. Songshan Airport (TSA) sits inside the city and serves a small number of regional and cross-strait flights—it's far more convenient if your carrier operates from there, but selection is limited.
The Chinese New Year (January-February) dominates fare calendars with the biggest annual spike—booking 10+ weeks ahead is essential. March through May offers comfortable spring weather and moderate pricing. Typhoon season runs roughly June through September, which can cause flight disruptions but also produces lower fares. October-November is a secondary sweet spot with pleasant weather and post-summer demand lulls.
March-April and November typically produce the lowest inbound fares. Avoid Chinese New Year (January-February) when fares can double or triple. June through September is cheaper but carries typhoon disruption risk.
No nonstop exists from London. One-stop connections through Hong Kong, Istanbul, or a Gulf hub take 13-16 hours depending on layover length. EVA Air and China Airlines serve connecting itineraries via their TPE hub.
UK, EU, US, Canadian, and many other passport holders can enter Taiwan visa-free for 90 days. No advance application is needed—just arrive with a passport valid for at least 6 months and proof of onward travel.
